BUCK-KNIFE:
✹ STORY ✹

September of 1997 - August of 1999

✹✹✹✹✹✹

Owen Sebastian Liebermann lives in the rural Pennsylvanian town of Buck-Knife. He is wholly alone, with no real friends, and he hates his mother and older sister. He feels inhuman, always having breakdowns that feel all-consuming and unstoppable. He feels like he's being watched late at night, by some thing that wants him dead. When he meets Sidney Jasmine Price and is confronted with something horrible he did the year prior, things only get worse. When he meets Anuar Serikbaeva, a boy who he quickly-- to his own horror-- falls in love with, things only get worse. His episodes become more and more extreme, until, ultimately, he commits an atrocity that is unforgivable.

"You wanted happiness, I can't blame you for that, and maybe a mouth sounds idiotic when it blathers on about joy but tell me you love this, tell me you're not miserable. You do the math, you expect the trouble. The seaside town. The electric fence. Draw a circle with a piece of chalk. Imagine standing in a constant cone of light. Imagine surrender. Imagine being useless. A stone on the path means the tea's not ready, a stone in the hand means somebody's angry, the stone inside you still hasn't hit bottom."
- Richard Siken, 'Seaside Improvisation'
