Although Penelope is a very gloomy and introverted girl-- and slightly-unbearable in her sentimentality-- she is a truly beautiful soul. A lover of the arts in all its forms and a caregiver to all, she lights up any room she is in with ease. She especially has a gift with the elderly and small children, who find her soft-spoken nature to be delightful. She is is not necessarily graceful, nor is she very street-smart, but she is loved nonetheless, and for good reason: it's just so easy to love her.
Even so, she is haunted by things that incomprehensible. She is haunted, too, by her dead parents, who were killed by drunk rednecks; somehow, these are the easiest ghosts for one to wrap one's head around.
