Joshua Liam Miller lives with his four best friends in the mountain city of Greenplough. Ever-certain that 'something is out there', Liam notices oddities where there weren't before. He devotes his time to deciphering the clues he's managed to collect thus far, and what it culminates in is more than he could have ever anticipated. Him and his friends are welcomed into the intricate world of Anaism through a cult called the Ballad's Spectres, and it seems that two things are certain. One: these people are unlike anyone else in the world. Two: the friends have joined the festivities at the worst time possible.

brother, and the other is your current boyfriend. All of them have seen
you naked and heard you talking in your sleep. Your boyfriend Jeff gets
up to answer the phone. To them he is a mirror, but to you he is a room.
Phone's for you, Jeff says. Hey! It's Uncle Jeff, who isn't really your
uncle, but you can't talk right now, one of the Jeffs has put his tongue
in your mouth. Please let it be the right one."
